Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is the ability to consciously participate in your dreams. Some lucky people are able to have lucid dreams naturally, but for most of us it is a skill we must learn. Conscious participation in your dreams implies that the dreamer realizes he or she is dreaming at the time. Because of the conscious element, the lucid dreamer is able to manipulate the dreamscape into anything imaginable - or anything real.

Lucid dreaming holds enormous potential for personal growth and change. In your lucid dreams, you can conquer personal fears. You may use vivid imagery to heal, or transcend reality. You may choose to rehearse your presentation to a room full of people, or find creative solutions to a real-life problem. Anything is possible in your dreams, and a lucid dream is an incredibly vivid experience teeming with clarity. You can do anything, anywhere, with anyone! Fly over the ocean, or rocket to the moon. Have dinner with your favorite movie star. Swim with dolphins, or even BE a dolphin. Your imagination is the only limitation.

Lucid dreaming is a skill that is mastered through practice and intention. Essentially, one must practice bringing their intended purpose into the dream state.

Our most active and vivid dreams occur during a specific part our sleep, called REM sleep. 'REM' stands for Rapid Eye Movement, referring to the way our eyes move quickly about during this period of sleep. Our first REM cycle of the night occurs approximately 90 minutes after sleep onset, and again more frequently throughout the night toward morning. Neurologically, REM is quite similar to our waking state. The brainwaves of an awake person are quite similar to the brainwaves of a person experiencing REM. So, when we're in REM, we are very close to consciousness. If we could just tap into our "nearby" conscious mind while maintaining REM, we'd have full access to our intention, goals and needs.

So how can you tap into your conscious awareness during REM? Check out the Lucid Dreaming section here at OrbitsUnlimited.com or visit our favorite retail site, 3PoundUniverse.com for various tools to aid in this process, including audio programs, books, and technology. They carry an excellent lucid dreaming audio program by Hemi-Sync which helps you to make your intentions clear, holds you in a mind-awake/body-asleep state, and reminds you during REM that you are dreaming...highly recommended! They carry books which explain lucid dreaming in more detail and outline methods for becoming lucid. Additionally, light and sound machines are used with great success to help train the mind-awake/body-asleep state. Users of light and sound stimulation often report incredibly vivid dreams, even when that is not their original intention. Light and sound machines effectively hold you in a deep meditative state where you are receptive to programming your personal goals. This state of consciousness - which is similar to REM and light sleep - is an excellent time to remind yourself that you will not only remember your dreams, but will become conscious within your dreamscape and participate in it.

Another lucid dreaming device, called the NovaDreamer was available until about a year ago. At the present time, they are no longer in production. Hopefully they will be again soon. Check back with us from time to time to see if we have a future version stocked.

3PoundUniverse.com carries additional sleep and dream enhancement tools for conquering insomnia, sleeping more peacefully, maintaining sleep, using dreams for creative solutions, and more!

Remember that lucid dreaming is a skill that is mastered through practice and intention. Don't be discouraged if you don't achieve lucidity immediately upon dreaming. Initially, you may find that you are simply developing greater recall of your dream content. With practice and intention, you will achieve greater success with lucid dreaming. Most importantly, have fun along the way and let it be an enjoyable journey!
